Lies Are Like Jail Cells

John 8:32: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

The other side of that truth is that lies are like jail cells. They enslave us. We become enslaved by whatever lies that we believe. We become enslaved by our own lies as well as those of others. Recently I have become aware that many of the problems in my life are specifically caused by liars. Something that I purchased was not what I was told it would be. The sales lady lied to me. In order to get what I needed I had to spend more money than she told me. If I didn*t spend more money I would have had just a part of what I needed, and that part would not get the job done. I was trapped into either having something that did not meet the need or spending more money. I was trapped by her lie. But she is in a worse trap than I was. I was able to escape the trap by spending a little more. She has not repented of her lie and is still in its captivity. Her prison is separation from God.

Isaiah 59:2: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

In the last few years a political party in our nation has often been accused of lying. Those who prefer the opposing party are troubled by the lies. Those who prefer the accused political party try to justify its lies by saying: Both sides lie. There are definitely liars on both sides. It is rather like saying our lies are better than your lies or our lies are for a better purpose than your lies. What many don*t realize is that the lies on either side are additional bars and locks on a prison cell. Every sin of every sort is directly connected to some falsehood (lie) about God or His commands. Every sin will offer some benefit. But the benefit will always be outweighed by a problem. A thief believes that he will be better off if he steals. That is a lie. He will always be worse off after a sin. He will have another barrier between him and God.

Pastor Leonard Bullock gave a quote from the past: All Satan*s apples have worms. Dr. J. Vernon McGee said: Sin will take you where you don*t want to go, keep you there longer than you want to stay and cost you more than you want to pay.

John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 17:17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The best freedom is freedom from sin, freedom from being locked away from God, freedom from the snares of the Devil. Our sin is the problem (the jail cell) and Jesus is the solution (the freedom). Our sins are forgiven when we invite the living truth (Jesus) into our hearts and believe the written truth (The Bible) with our minds.

John 8:36: If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
